Jamshedpur: A total of 160 electronic and electrical items, weighing approximately 58.42 kg, were collected at National Institute of Technology (NIT-Jamshedpur) during the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign.The e-waste included printer cartridges, UPS units, laptops, mobile phones, keyboards, mice, microwave ovens, cables, chargers, Wi-Fi routers, electronic toys, smart watches, batteries, power banks, set-top boxes, dish antennas and several other electronic and electrical items.GoGreen Club of the institute organised the E-Waste Collection Drive — “E-Waste to Responsible Recycling” — in collaboration with Tata Steel UISL RRR Centres. The initiative aimed to promote awareness about responsible e-waste disposal, recycling and resource recovery among students, faculty members, staff and their family members.During the drive, participants were sensitised about the importance of segregating e-waste from general waste and ensuring its disposal through appropriate recycling channels.Tata Steel UISL RRR Centres team interacted with participants and explained how discarded electronic items are scientifically and responsibly processed, enabling recovery of useful materials and their reintegration into the resource cycle, officials said.To encourage participation, a “Spin & Win” activity was organised. Participants who brought at least three e-waste items got an opportunity to win sustainable gifts.“Responsible e-waste management is our collective responsibility towards environmental protection and recovery of valuable resources. Such initiatives contribute significantly to building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable future,” said Goutam Sutradhar, director, NIT Jamshedpur.
