Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL) on Sunday said electricity supply had been restored in most urban areas of the state after widespread disruptions caused by continuous and unseasonal rainfall, while repair work continued in several rain hit rural pockets.Principal secretary (energy) and UPPCL chairman Ranvir Prasad reviewed the restoration work on Sunday. According to UPPCL, the rain and falling trees triggered a large number of breakdowns on 33 kV and 11 kV feeders. Officials said power supply had largely returned to normal in urban areas across Madhyanchal, Purvanchal, Paschimanchal and Dakshinanchal, though restoration work was still underway in parts of Bareilly division and several rural districts affected by fresh rainfall.Among the worst affected districts were Lucknow, Barabanki, Bahraich, Basti, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Varanasi Rural, Azamgarh, Ballia, Lakhimpur Kheri and Kanpur Nagar.Hospitals and drinking water installations have been given top priority, with state and discom control rooms operating 24×7.Lineman electrocuted in LucknowA 35-year-old ad-hoc lineman died after coming into contact of live wire while restoring power in Lucknow’s Chinhat area on Sunday morning. Ranjeet, a native of Barabanki posted at the UPSIDC substation, had climbed an electric pole near Lalpurwa village after the power supply was believed to have been switched off. However, the line was still live as it was being fed from the Omega Power House, leading to the accident. He fell from the pole and was taken to Lohia Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
