Gurgaon: A WagonR driver allegedly took a U-turn from the wrong side on Sohna elevated highway near Bestech Business Park on Saturday night, in a bid to avoid a 3km detour, resulting in a collision with an oncoming Baleno. Three people were injured in the crash, and traffic on Sohna Road was affected as the damaged vehicles remained on the carriageway.The accident occurred on the three-lane flyover when the WagonR driver allegedly attempted to turn towards the opposite carriageway instead of driving ahead to the designated U-turn, police said. A Baleno approaching from the opposite direction collided with the WagonR, damaging the front portions of both cars.Eyewitnesses said the designated U-turn was around 3km ahead, and the WagonR driver appeared to have taken the risky manoeuvre to avoid the extra distance. The sudden movement left the Baleno driver with little time to react.The three injured — two people in the Baleno and the WagonR driver — were taken for medical attention; their condition was stable, according to police. Police and traffic personnel reached the spot and used a crane to move the vehicles to the roadside, after which traffic flow was restored.A senior police officer said, “We are yet to receive any complaints from the incident. Meanwhile, a team is trying to analyse how the accident occurred. Further investigation is underway.”A video of the crash and the damaged vehicles later circulated on social media, triggering concerns over wrong-side driving and dangerous manoeuvres on the elevated highway.
