Bokaro: Thirty-five vehicle drivers were penalised and fines amounting to around Rs 1.25 lakh collected during a special enforcement drive against illegal parking and over-height vehicles on major roads in Bokaro in the past 24 hours.The drive was conducted by district transport officer Maruti Minz, motor vehicle inspectors and traffic officials on the directions of deputy commissioner Ajay Nath Jha, issued at a recent district road safety committee meeting.Officials checked vehicles obstructing traffic and those violating road safety norms. The administration said the action was aimed at curbing illegal parking, penalising vehicles exceeding permissible height limits and ensuring smoother and safer traffic movement.The road safety committee, chaired by Jha, had reviewed measures to prevent accidents, improve black spots, regulate roadside parking and ensure prompt assistance to accident victims.Jha directed officials to hold regular drives against illegal parking on the Pindrajora-Jodhadih road and strengthen safety measures on sensitive stretches, including the Siwandih-Balidih and Datu-Ramgarh border roads. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and police were also asked to take action against vehicles parked along roads. Roadside establishments facilitating illegal parking may face notices and penalties.“We have also ordered police verification of school bus drivers and directed that police personnel be trained in first aid. Police stations and relevant vehicles will be equipped with first-aid kits,” the DC said.SP Nathu Singh Meena instructed police officers to intensify vehicle checks and use breath-analysers to detect drunk driving.
