Ranchi: Four people were grievously injured after three armed men opened fire inside a restaurant at a mall on Marine Drive in Jamshedpur’s Sonari on Saturday.The injured were identified as Dilshad, Dominic Samsung, Rizwan and Krishna Choudhary. They were admitted to Tata Main Hospital, where their condition was reported to be serious.Police said the victims were having lunch when the attackers entered the restaurant and began firing. The assailants allegedly chased the victims and fired 11 rounds, triggering panic among other visitors, who ran for safety.Koyalanchal DIG Anuranjan Kispotta visited the spot and reviewed the investigation. Police examined CCTV footage from the area and said one of the accused had been identified.“Police are trying to arrest the criminal identified in the CCTV footage. Prima facie, it appears that mutual rivalry was the reason behind the incident. Some of the injured persons are critical,” Kispotta said.Jamshedpur SSP Ehtesham Waquarib said a special investigation team had been formed to probe the firing.The incident occurred two days after unidentified criminals looted Rs 42 lakh in cash and gold worth Rs 33.20 crore from a public sector bank’s branch under Golmuri police station limits. On the same night, valuables were stolen from a jewellery shop in the city.A local trade body had called a Golmuri bandh on Saturday to protest the spate of crimes. The broad-daylight firing during the bandh has further heightened concerns among traders and residents over law and order in the city.Traders and locals said fear had spread across Jamshedpur and alleged that the deteriorating law-and-order situation could affect investment in the Steel City. Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Rai said the incident had “inculcated fear among the people”.
