Jaisalmer: A 16-year-old girl from Bihar was allegedly sold for Rs 2 lakh by her father, in connivance with his second wife and others, and married to a 28-year-old man in Pokhran, police said. The minor was rescued within an hour of her uncle approaching Jaisalmer SP Thursday. The man who allegedly bought her was arrested Friday.The girl’s uncle approached SP Abhishek Shivhare seeking action, and the SP formed a team to trace the girl.According to the complaint, the girl’s father, a resident of Bihar’s Arwal district, allegedly took Rs 2 lakh from Tikamchand Mali in exchange for his minor daughter. He allegedly married the girl and kept her in Purohitsar village. However, police traced her and rescued her within an hour.SHO Manish Kumar Soni said police arrested Mali Friday. He added that preliminary questioning indicated Mali had allegedly purchased the minor, married her and kept her with him. The girl was produced before Child Welfare Committee for further action as per law.

As the alleged offence originated in Bihar’s Arwal police station area, Pokhran police registered a Zero FIR on the uncle’s complaint and forwarded it to Arwal police.Police are probing the alleged trafficking network and the roles of the girl’s father, his second wife and other intermediaries involved in bringing her to Rajasthan.
