Kanpur: Kanpur Municipal Corporation on Friday launched a 157-hour non-stop cleanliness drive under the Swachhta Hi Seva fortnight to mark the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Oct 2.The campaign was launched at Kalyanpur Crossing at 4 pm and will conclude at the KMC headquarters in Motijheel on Gandhi Jayanti at 8 am.The drive will cover road cleaning across all six zones, drain cleaning, garbage collection and lime sprinkling. Citizens will also be educated about the importance of cleanliness.Municipal commissioner Arpit Upadhyay said that the campaign aimed to create a clean and healthy environment in the city while encouraging public awareness and participation in cleanliness efforts. It would include intensive sanitation work, waste removal and maintenance of regular sanitation arrangements in different parts of the city.Mayor Pramila Pandey, additional municipal commissioner Jagdish Yadav, city health officer Ajay Shankhwar and other KMC officials were present.
