Thiruvananthapuram: Vanchiyoor Police on Thursday arrested Sandeep, brother of BJP councillor Sugathan of city corporation, for allegedly trespassing into the house of a witness in the Mannanthala Ranjith murder case and creating a disturbance.The police said Sandeep, a BJP worker, was under the influence of alcohol when he allegedly reached the witness’s house on Wednesday night.The development comes days before the court is scheduled to pronounce the sentence in the Ranjith murder case on Sept 30. Ranjith, an RSS worker, was murdered in Mannanthala in 2008.Following the incident at the witness’s house, allegations were initially raised that CPM workers were behind an alleged attack on the witness. BJP workers had subsequently called for a protest, raising concerns of tension in the area.The police, however, launched a probe after receiving the complaint and examined CCTV footage and other evidence. The investigation reportedly established that Sandeep had gone to the witness’s house and created the disturbance.Officials said further investigation is under way.
