Ara: A 36-year-old vegetable vendor died and his friend sustained serious injuries after their motorcycle was allegedly hit by a speeding truck coming from the wrong side of the road on Ara-Kayamnagar bypass under Gidha police station area in Bhojpur district on Thursday morning.According to police, the deceased was identified as Shahzad Alam, son of Nayiman Rayene and a resident of ward no. 10 of Koilwar Nagar Panchayat. The injured, Bauwa Rayene, a resident of ward no. 6 of Koilwar Nagar Panchayat, was referred to Patna for better treatment.Police said the accident occurred around 7 am when Shahzad Alam, also known as Sonu Rayene, and his friend Bauwa Rayene were travelling to Ara vegetable market on a motorcycle. A speeding truck allegedly coming from the wrong side hit their bike.Both men were thrown on the road and sustained serious injuries. Locals rushed them to Ara Sadar Hospital, where Shahzad succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Considering the severity of his condition, doctors referred Bauwa to PMCH, Patna.Gidha SHO Tinku Kumar said the truck involved in the accident has been seized, but the driver fled the spot after the mishap. “An investigation is underway to identify and arrest the truck driver involved in the accident,” the SHO said.Koilwar Nagar Panchayat chief councillor Sartaj Alam, who reached the hospital after the accident, expressed grief over Shahzad’s death and consoled the bereaved family. Shahzad is survived by his father Nayiman Rayene, mother Nazma Khatoon, and wife Fatima Khatoon. After the post-mortem at Ara Sadar Hospital, police handed over the body to the family.
