Mumbai: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi spoke to the parents of IIT-Bombay student Sahil Wakode on Thursday, assuring them of support in their fight for justice following their son’s death.Gandhi spoke to Ravindra and Sonali Wakode over a video call lasting nearly 17 minutes while the couple was travelling to Mumbai from Washim district, party sources said. Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib and the organisation’s Maharashtra unit chief Shivraj More were with the family at the time.The call came as Sahil’s parents prepared to begin an indefinite hunger strike outside the IIT-Bombay campus from Thursday, demanding justice for their son. They were detained by the Bhandup police.Sahil, 20, was found dead in his hostel room on Sept 18, hours after an incident during a mid-semester examination in which he was allegedly found using a mobile phone to access ChatGPT. The circumstances preceding his death have since become the subject of multiple investigations.Mumbai Police Crime Branch is probing the case.IIT-Bombay has also constituted a 10-member high-level committee to examine the circumstances surrounding Sahil’s death.Meanwhile, CCTV footage from the examination hall on Wednesday, showed Sahil in the hall before a professor approached him and subsequently led him outside.
