Kanpur: Police on Wednesday took medicine trader Vineet Minocha’s daughter-in-law Shalu and two other accused, contract killers Vishal and Rajkishore, into 24-hour custody for questioning in his murder case.

Minocha was stabbed more than 26 times in the neck and chest and killed on Sept 5.Police first brought the three to Kalyanpur police station and questioned them for about 30 minutes.Shalu, who covered her face with a dupatta, travelled in a private car, while Vishal and Rajkishore were taken in a police jeep.Investigators then took Shalu to Z Square Mall, where they claim she had taken Vishal shopping. Police also planned identification proceedings at a key shop at Parade Chauraha as part of efforts to verify movement and purchases linked to the alleged conspiracy.Officials said call detail records, electronic evidence and other material pointed to Minocha’s son, Subrat. Investigators plan to confront him with the three accused to corroborate evidence, establish links in the alleged conspiracy and gather further material.Minocha lived with his family in flat C-104 at Ratan Orbit Apartment. He and Subrat ran Pharma Traders, a medicine firm on Birhana Road. His family includes wife Puneeta, Subrat, Shalu and a five-year-old grandson. Subrat and Shalu married seven years ago in Nainital. Puneeta, a marriage counsellor, lives in Ghaziabad with daughter Subhani and her son-in-law. Shalu’s father, Naresh Arora, is a cloth businessman in Lucknow’s Thakurganj.Police caught Vishal, a servant at his shop, and Rajkishore during an encounter on Sept 6. Vishal alleged he committed the crime at Shalu’s behest. Apartment security guard Madan Singh said Shalu had called Vishal to the house, after which police arrested and jailed her.Police had sought 24-hour custody of Shalu and Vishal on Sept 16, but the hearing was deferred due to a strike.
