T’puram: Paravoor Police arrested a 42-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl at her home on Monday night. The accused, a native of Paravoor, is known to the survivor and her family.According to the police, the girl was returning home after attending an evening dance class when the accused offered to drop her home. After dropping her at the house, the man allegedly asked her for a glass of water.When the girl went to the kitchen to get the water, he allegedly followed her and sexually assaulted her, said police. The girl raised an alarm, hearing which locals rushed to the house and overpowered the accused.The police were alerted and the accused was taken into custody.The police said no other family members were present at the house when the alleged assault took place.Based on the survivor’s statement, the police registered a case under relevant provisions of Pocso Act. The accused was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.The police said the survivor was taken for a medical examination, and that further investigation is under way. Statements of the survivor and witnesses are being recorded as part of the investigation, officials said.
