Ranchi: Around six full-time contractual assistant professors will be appointed for the MBA and BBA programmes of Ranchi University (RU) to address an acute faculty shortage in its self-financing management courses.
“The faculty members will be deployed at colleges and institutes offering management courses, including Doranda College, SS Memorial College, the Institute of Management Studies and Indian Law School,” RU spokesperson and head of the chemistry department Smirti Singh said.
“The list of selected candidates will be published on Thursday,” Singh said.
The development comes days after the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) submitted a memorandum to RU vice-chancellor Saroj Sharma, seeking immediate steps to address the shortage of teachers in the MBA and BBA programmes.
NSUI state vice-president Aman Ahmad alleged that the lack of adequate full-time faculty was affecting regular classes, academic guidance and preparation for examinations. He said the university had issued an advertisement for contractual assistant professors in April and conducted interviews on July 27, but the results had not yet been announced.
With the academic session already under way and examinations approaching, Ahmad said the delay in appointments was making it difficult for students to complete the syllabus on time.
Singh said the selection process had been completed earlier, but the university had to wait for faculty requisitions from the colleges before finalising the deployment of selected candidates.
“The list of selected candidates was ready long ago. The university took time to obtain requisitions from the colleges so that the new assistant professors could be deployed according to their requirements,” she said.
