Awantipora, Sep 22: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Science, Technology and Innovation Council (JKSTIC), Department of Science and Technology, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, is set to host the J&K Science Congress 2026 from Sep 29 to Oct 1, 2026, at its Awantipora campus.
The three-day Congress will be inaugurated on September 29 by Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and Chancellor, IUST. The theme of the Congress, “Science, Innovations and Emerging Technologies for Sustainable and Viksit J&K,” underscores the role of scientific advancement and innovation in addressing regional challenges and creating new opportunities.
The Congress is being organised as a major platform for bringing together scientists, academicians, researchers, innovators, policymakers, industry representatives, young researchers and students for deliberations on the role of science, technology and innovation in addressing contemporary challenges and advancing sustainable development.
The Congress will feature five plenary sessions, around 26 technical sessions, nearly 200 oral presentations and around 200 poster presentations, besides scores of invited lectures by eminent scientists, academicians and scholars of repute.
With participation of more than 100 invited speakers and guests and an overall participation expected to cross 600, the Congress will provide a vibrant platform for scientific exchange, interdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge sharing.
The scientific programme encompasses a wide range of contemporary areas, including advanced materials and nanoscience, quantum science, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, biotechnology and life sciences, healthcare, sustainable energy, climate and environmental sciences, water and biodiversity, disaster resilience, innovation and entrepreneurship, and smart engineering systems, among other areas of scientific and technological relevance.
A key feature of the Congress will be its focus on the interface between science, technology and sectors of direct relevance to the region.
The programme includes panel discussions on food processing and tourism, bringing together experts and stakeholders to deliberate on opportunities for innovation, technology adoption, value addition, sustainability and employment generation in these sectors.
The Congress will also place a special emphasis on young minds and scientific outreach through a dedicated School Students’ Science Programme. As part of the School Students’ Science Programme, a segment is being organised in collaboration with the National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC).
