PATNA: The main accused in the Jamui horror, who molested a schoolgirl as his group of goons harassed and assaulted the minor and her friend, was arrested after he was shot and injured by Bihar Police in an encounter during a search operation early Tuesday.Video clips of the outrageous act went viral on Monday, prompting a police crackdown that led to the arrest of Nandan Yadav, the man wearing red headgear in the videos, and Hareram Yadav. Police have also arrested three people on charges of circulating the videos.Nandan, who was hiding, opened fire in a bid to escape after he saw the police team. As cops fired in self-defence, he sustained a bullet injury in the right leg and was arrested.“The main accused, Nandan tried to escape when police were about to apprehend him, following which an encounter took place and he was shot in the leg,” ADG (law and order) K Suhita Anupam told TOI.The girl and her friend were returning from tuition on a two-wheeler when the accused stopped them near Madwa Pahad and subjected them to harassment for 15-20 minutes before the duo managed to flee.Jamui district SP said three juveniles were questioned on Monday. Police learned that Nandan and Hareram were hiding in bushes outside Pratappur village. An SIT probing the case cordoned off the area. Hareram allegedly fell while trying to flee and fractured his leg and was arrested. He provided information about Nandan’s whereabouts. Cops said both the accused were involved in illegal sand mining and liquor trade.A separate FIR was registered by cyber police for circulating the videos and revealing the minor’s identity. Around 120 websites and profiles had been identified and action was being taken, police said. SP said three persons, identified as Ramashish Kumar, Kundan Kumar and Faiyaz, were arrested in connection with the case.
