Gurgaon: A 36-year-old housekeeping staffer at ESIC Medical College and Hospital died at a private hospital on Monday night, two days after a water tanker hit the scooter she was riding near NHPC, Sector 33. Her colleague, who was riding pillion, was injured.The accident took place around 6 pm on Sept 19. The tanker driver fled the spot after the collision, leaving the two women injured on the road.The deceased, Asha, a resident of SGM Nagar, was posted at ESIC girls’ hostel near NHPC. She was returning home after finishing her duty when the accident occurred, police said.According to a police officer, “The impact threw both women onto the road, leaving them injured.”Passersby took the women to a nearby private hospital. Asha had suffered serious injuries and her condition deteriorated during treatment. Despite efforts by doctors, she died on Monday night, family members said.Her colleague, Suman (51), continues to undergo treatment at the hospital.Police said the tanker driver fled immediately after the collision. He abandoned the vehicle some distance from the accident spot. “The tanker has been taken into custody and the driver fled after the accident. We are searching for him. The circumstances leading to the collision are also being investigated,” the officer said.A case under relevant BNS sections has been registered on the basis of a complaint by Asha’s family.
