Jhansi: A 19-year-old woman died after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance in Jhansi’s Gursarai area late Monday night.Her family alleged that six youths sexually assaulted her, recorded a video of the incident, and threatened to make it viral, after which she took the step. The incident occurred in Indi village under the Gursarai police station, and a case has been registered against the accused.In his written complaint, the woman’s father alleged that the youths were harassing the woman on Sunday. When the woman’s father complained to the family of the accused, they did not take any action.On Monday afternoon, the woman had gone to their cattle barn when the accused caught her and allegedly gang-raped her. They also made a video of the incident.Distressed over the threat of circulating the video, the woman consumed poison. As her condition deteriorated, the family members took her to a private hospital in Gursarai around noon. She was discharged after her condition reportedly improved. However, her condition worsened later at night and she was taken to the community health centre where doctors declared her dead.On being informed, police arrived at the site and initiated an investigation. The body was sent for postmortem examination. A case has been lodged against the six accused under Section 70 (gang rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).SSP Jhansi Vikas Kumar said that five out of six accused have been nabbed and are being interrogated while one is absconding.A preliminary inquiry has revealed that one of the accused was known to the woman.
