Kolkata: Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to say a strict no to installing a Ferris wheel at parks and grounds during Durga Puja. The decision was taken after KMC parks department took up the matter with the civic brass before granting permission to hold pujas at the city parks. “We are not giving permission for the installation of Ferris wheel. We have asked cops to keep a tab on the organisers who defy these rules,” said an official.An accident at Ramlila Maidan in Entally last year prompted the civic decision, said an KMC parks department official. A woman, Priyanka Shaw (26), had to be hospitalised after she fell off a Ferris wheel on July 4 at Ramlila ground. Three persons, including the Ferris wheel operator, were arrested.KMC first decided to put a ban on the installation of Ferris wheel in 2009 after an accident at Deshapriya Park the previous year. However, later KMC granted permission to the organisers subject to submission of an expert’s inspection report of the safety of the giant wheel.
