Darjeeling: A fire broke out at Batasia Police Outpost, near the famed Batasia Loop tourist spot, around 5km from Darjeeling, on Tuesday morning. No injuries were reported and tourist movement remained unaffected..The fire was reported around 9.55 am. A fire engine reached the spot and doused the flames within 10 minutes.“The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. An investigation has been initiated. According to the preliminary investigation, a short circuit could be the cause,” said Darjeeling fire station in-charge Bharat Lama Sherpa.The outpost, under Jorebunglow police station, was gutted from the inside, damaging computers, wireless sets, manpacks and lights. Officials said the damage could have been worse had nearby motorcycles not been moved in time.
