Darjeeling: The Kurseong administration has sealed the unregistered homestay in Sittong where a newlywed woman from Chopra in North Dinajpur suffered severe burn injuries after a barbecue fire flared up during her honeymoon on Sept 13.The property was cleared of guests, with at least 12 occupants shifted to a nearby homestay before it was sealed on Monday. Officials said it would remain sealed until further orders as the investigation was underway.The victim, Nikita Das, who suffered around 65% burn injuries, was shifted to MR Bangur Hospital in Kolkata on Sunday for further treatment.The four accused — homestay owner Nehal Airan, her father Pawan Kumar Agarwal, manager Dipen Tamang (Lama) and staff member Nasiruddin, who allegedly poured thinner onto the fire — are scheduled to be produced before Kurseong court on Sept 23 after a four-day police remand.Nikita Das and her husband, Sameer, had booked the property online for their honeymoon. She suffered severe burns after a fireball reportedly erupted during a barbecue session.Following the incident, the Kurseong administration, police and fire department have intensified inspections of homestays, particularly in Dudhe, to check compliance with fire and electrical safety measures.
