Bettiah: The murder of a 17-year-old boy in Lalgarh village under Muffassil police station in West Champaran triggered a protest on Tuesday with villagers placing his body on the Bettiah-Sariswa road and demanding the early arrest of those involved. Protesters also resorted to arson, disrupting traffic for nearly two hours from around 7am to 9am.Muffassil police, along with a QRT team, reached the spot and pacified the protesters. The blockade was lifted after police assured them of appropriate action.Muffassil police station officer-in-charge Kanchan Bhaskar said Suraj Jaiswal was allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon during a dispute over an old issue in Lalgarh village on Monday. He sustained serious injuries and died. His cousin, Shivam Jaiswal, who intervened to save him, was also attacked and seriously injured. He is undergoing treatment at GMCH.Bhaskar said police had detained a youth in connection with the incident and were questioning him. Police were also collecting evidence and probing the motive behind the murder and the role of others allegedly involved. Villagers demanded the early arrest of all those allegedly involved in the killing.
