Jind: Amid the beat of nagadas and showers of flowers, a family in Shadipur village of Jind’s Julana welcomed a newborn with rare fervour, claiming the house saw the birth of a girl child after nearly four-and-a-half decades.The family brought the newborn, Saanvi, home from the hospital in a vehicle adorned with flowers. Dhols and nagadas accompanied the celebrations as family members and relatives distributed sweets and congratulated one another.Newborn’s father Vikas said the family had been hoping for a daughter for a long time. About a year after his marriage, his wife Simran gave birth to a baby girl. As soon as the family received the news, preparations for the newborn’s welcome began at the hospital itself, he said.Vikas said the last daughter born into the family was his paternal aunt, nearly 45 years ago. He said Saanvi’s birth had ended the long wait and brought immense joy to the entire family.Vikas and Simran said they do not consider the birth of a daughter a matter of concern and believe that girls can excel in every field. The family said it did not differentiate between sons and daughters, stressing that every child should have equal opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.The family’s celebration also conveyed a message of welcoming daughters and promoting gender equality in a khapland district, which landed in controversy earlier for their statements regarding girls’ dressing sense and seating styles on bike with their fathers.
