Ara: A 23-year-old man was allegedly shot dead following an altercation with a group of youths at Neema village under Udwantnagar police station area in Bhojpur district on Monday evening. The victim, Shatrughan Kumar Singh, suffered a bullet injury to his chest and died while being taken to Ara Sadar Hospital, police said.According to family members, Shatrughan was sitting near a bridge over a village canal when he got into an argument with some youths. Soon after, he was allegedly shot.His grandfather, Krishna Kumar Singh, said he rushed out after hearing a commotion in the village and found his grandson critically injured. He alleged that the assailant was a youth from neighbouring Jainagar village, though the motive behind the attack was not immediately known.Police, led by Udwantnagar SHO Jayant Prakash, reached the spot and launched an investigation. “Efforts are on to identify and arrest those involved in the shooting,” the SHO said.The incident has cast a shadow over the family, as Shatrughan had become a father to a baby boy barely 20 days ago. A resident of Ward No. 8 of Neema village, he is survived by his wife, a daughter, newborn son and mother. Police said further investigation is underway.
