NEW DELHI: Delhi high court Monday refused to entertain a plea seeking the registration of an FIR and a probe by an SIT or CBI into the purported discovery of a huge stash of cash last year following a fire at the residence of former Delhi high court judge Yashwant Varma.“I’m not entertaining this. This is a wild witch hunt. You have nothing better to do?” Justice Amit Bansal asked, adding that the petitioner, lawyer Ghanshyam Upadhyay, had alternative remedies available in law.HC questioned the locus of the petitioner and asked why he did not approach the trial court with his plea.The petitioner said the incident was “extraordinary” in nature and the lower court “can’t do justice to the matter”. After the court indicated that it would dismiss the plea, the petitioner withdrew it to consider other legal remedies.The petitioner had earlier approached SC with his plea, which was dismissed in Aug.Amid the row that followed the purported discovery of cash at Varma’s residence on March 14, 2025, he was transferred to Allahabad HC.Varma, who was facing impeachment proceedings, resigned this year on April 9. The rare proceedings initiated by LS against Varma were rendered “infructuous” following his resignation.
