Chikkamagaluru: Kudremukh National Park Punarvasati Horata Samiti members demanded that the state govt provide scientific compensation to the families living inside the park area. The committee members submitted their plaints at a meeting at Kerekatte in Sringeri taluk under the presidentship of committee president Kolegadde Pradeep.The families residing inside the national park are facing severe hardships. “Wild animal problem has increased and people are living in fear. We are forced to agitate. The govt should understand our problems and provide immediate relief and justice,” he said.The meeting demanded a scientific rehabilitation package suitable for 2026 and proper valuation of houses within the national park limits. Members pointed out that funds have not been released for files cleared in the earlier meeting chaired by the deputy commissioner. They sought valuation and fair compensation for ancestral lands and houses where assessment exists.“Families who have been cultivating for livelihood since ancient times should be considered. Only Rs 2 lakh per acre is being given as compensation for revenue land. At least Rs 50 lakh per acre is needed to rebuild life,” they demanded.The committee urged the central and state govts to seriously consider issues in the Kudremukh National Park area and demanded that the district in-charge minister, MP, MLAs and DC hold a public interaction meeting at Kerekatte and take an appropriate decision.If demands are not met, the Samiti unanimously decided to launch intense agitation, including a 20-km padayatra from Kerekatte to the taluk office, road blockade and election boycott.
