Silchar: A 19-year-old student was killed after he allegedly slipped and fell under a moving passenger train while trying to get off at Hailakandi railway station on Wednesday morning.The deceased was identified as Sahid Alam Mazumdar, a resident of Aynakhal village in the Monachhara area of Hailakandi district. He was a second-year Higher Secondary student at Hailakandi Public School.According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred as a Bairabi-Silchar passenger train was entering Hailakandi station. The train was slowing down to halt at the platform when Mazumdar allegedly tried to get off.He apparently lost his footing and fell under the train. He died on the spot, sources said.The incident caused a commotion at the station, with passengers and local residents gathering at the spot.Authorities later reached the station and recovered the body, which was sent for medico-legal formalities. Officials are looking into the circumstances that led to the accident.Mazumdar’s death left his family, fellow students and residents of his village in mourning.
