Jamshedpur: Tata Steel Foundation’s flagship Project Poshan has benefited more than 3.32 lakh people across Jharkhand and Odisha over the past three years, the foundation said in a statement.The programme helped rehabilitate more than 13,000 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and moderate acute malnutrition (MAM). Through treatment, community-based management and follow-up care, the children were supported in attaining normal weight-for-height status.Project Poshan also supported more than 55,000 anaemic adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers and women of reproductive age. The initiative focused on improving haemoglobin levels through screening, nutrition counselling, iron and folic acid supplementation and behavioural change interventions.To strengthen grassroots healthcare delivery, the foundation trained 657 anganwadi workers and 980 Asha workers in child growth monitoring, malnutrition management, nutrition counselling and beneficiary tracking.The programme also facilitated the development of more than 22,000 household nutrition gardens, helping improve access to fresh vegetables and strengthen food security for women and children.Project Poshan addresses key child health indicators in underserved areas of Jharkhand and Odisha, including stunting (31%), underweight prevalence (29.7%) and wasting (18.1%), the statement said.
