Thiruvananthapuram: A 65-year-old woman was killed by her 26-year-old grandson after a quarrel at their house in Channankara, Kadinamkulam on Tuesday.The deceased is Mercy, who was engaged in fish vending. Her daughter’s son, Shibin, has been taken into custody by Kadinamkulam Police. The police suspect that a dispute over Shibin’s drinking habit may have led to the fatal attack.According to the police, the incident occurred when an argument broke out between the duo at their house. During the argument, Shibin attacked Mercy with a knife and slit her throat. He then reportedly came out of the house carrying the weapon and told neighbours that he had killed his grandmother.Meanwhile, Mercy was rushed to Chirayinkeezhu taluk hospital. She later succumbed to her injuries.After the attack, Shibin fled from the area. The police launched a search and apprehended him at Kadinamkulam. He had sustained an injury to his leg while fleeing and was shifted to MCH.The police said Shibin was a habitual drinker, and that disputes related to his drinking had reportedly caused frequent arguments at home. According to the police, his parents had died a few years ago, while his brother and grandfather were away at work when the incident occurred.
