Chennai: At least four separate cases have been registered in different parts of the state, including Chennai, against three DMK leaders over remarks made during protests on Sept 12 against Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay’s speech in the assembly and against minister C T R Nirmalkumar.While Chennai and Cuddalore police registered cases against former minister P K Sekarbabu and DMK MP A Raja, Kallakurichi police registered a case against Rishivandhiyam DMK MLA Vasantham Karthikeyan over remarks made during a similar protest in the district on Sept 12.Chennai North Beach police registered a case against Sekarbabu on a complaint from Jagadeswari, 37, a construction worker and TVK member.According to the complaint, Sekarbabu, used derogatory expressions against the chief minister and Nirmal Kumar while addressing a recent gathering. The case was registered on Sept 14 at B1 North Beach police station under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.In a separate case, Saidapet police registered an FIR against DMK MP A Raja based on a complaint from Karthik. The case related to remarks Raja made against Nirmal Kumar during a DMK protest at Saidapet on Sept 12. Police registered the case under Sections 189(2), 352, 353(1)(b), 296(b), 192 and 79 of the BNS and began an investigation.Police said they were examining complaints, video recordings of the speeches and other material as part of the investigations.
