Not every relationship lie starts with something dramatic. Sometimes it is a quick “I’m fine” when you are clearly not fine. Sometimes it is telling your partner that you barely spoke to an ex when the conversation actually lasted an hour. Or saying, “I didn’t buy anything,” while quietly hiding the shopping bag.
On their own, these things may seem too minor to start a fight over. But relationships rarely break because of one tiny lie. The bigger problem is what happens when those little lies start becoming a habit.
Over time, your partner may stop questioning the lie itself and start questioning what else you might be hiding. Here are five seemingly harmless lies that can create much bigger problems in a relationship.
