Jaisalmer: BJP is set to form boards in most urban local bodies across Jaisalmer, Barmer and Balotra districts after winning clear majorities in several civic bodies in Monday’s counting.In Barmer Municipal Council, BJP won 29 of 55 wards and is set to end its 15-year political exile from the board. Two of five independents have already extended support to the party. With the chairperson’s post unreserved, Kailash Kotdia, Gautam Jain and Gangavishan are among the contenders.In Chauhatan, BJP won 11 of 20 wards, while independents secured nine. Congress failed to win a single ward.Across Balotra district’s seven urban local bodies, BJP won 105 of 185 wards, securing a clear majority. Congress won 62 and independents 18. In Balotra Municipal Council, BJP won 29 of 55 wards against Congress’s 23 and independents’ three.BJP also secured a majority in Jaisalmer Municipal Council, winning 25 of 45 wards. Congress won 16, while rebel and independent candidates secured four.Pokhran, however, threw a close contest, with Congress winning 12 of 25 wards, BJP 11 and independents two. No party secured a majority.Across Balotra district’s seven urban local bodies — Balotra, Jasol, Siwana, Samdari, Sindhari, Gudamalani and Dhorimanna — BJP won 105 of the total 185 wards, securing a clear majority.
