Vadodara: Heavy rain lashed Vadodara district on Monday, causing widespread waterlogging, disrupting traffic and prompting authorities to declare a holiday for schools and colleges. Karjan recorded the highest rainfall in the district with 104mm, while several roads, homes and shops were inundated.Showers began early in the morning and affected movement across Vadodara city, where water accumulated in several low-lying areas. The spell eased by evening.According to district control room data, Vadodara district recorded an average of 38.88mm of rainfall between 6am and 4pm on Monday. Vadodara taluka received 65mm, with most of the rain falling during the morning hours. The city recorded 40mm between 6am and 8am, 20mm between 8am and 10am, and 5mm between 10am and noon.Karjan received 104mm during the same period, including 61mm between 8am and 10am and 29mm between 10am and noon. Padra recorded 51mm, Sinor 34mm, Savli and Desar 19mm each, Dabhoi 13mm and Waghodia 6mm.The district’s average rainfall stood at 11.25mm between 6am and 8am, rising to 16mm between 8am and 10am before easing through the afternoon.Woman, daughter fall into rainwater-filled pit in PadraA woman and her daughter fell into a rainwater-filled pit on Jashpur Road in Padra during the downpour. Water entered more than 15 houses in Sahajanand Society, while several shops at Valavav Chokdi were also affected.Waterlogging was reported on Geetanjali Road, Miyagam Chokdi Road, Sonanagar Road and Ranchhod Park Society Road, creating difficulties for motorists and residents.The district’s cumulative rainfall has reached 592.38mm. Sinor has recorded the highest cumulative rainfall at 874mm, followed by Dabhoi at 664mm, Vadodara at 639mm, Karjan at 614mm and Padra at 610mm.BOXBorsad records 138mm; 110mm in just two hoursHeavy rain also lashed neighbouring Anand district on Monday, with Borsad recording 138mm of rainfall between 6am and 4pm. Of this, 110mm fell between 8am and 10am.Tarapur recorded 78mm, Anklav 64mm, Petlad 39mm, Sojitra 29mm, Khambhat 18mm, Umreth 17mm and Anand 8mm. The district average stood at 48.88mm during the period.The intense spell left several parts of Borsad waterlogged.
