Mumbai: Celebrating 100 years of the first recording of Carnatic music stalwart MS Subbulakshmi, Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha presented a fellowship in her name to 50 young musicians from all parts of the country on Saturday.The award covers all disciplines like vocal, violin, flute, mridangam, tabla and nadaswaram. It carries a cash award of Rs 1 lakh each for three years. Till date, Sabha has conferred the fellowship on 231 young musicians, said president V Shankar.Musician Nanditha Ravi was granted Sangeetha Pracharya award. Ramchandra Jaybhaye, chief postmaster general, Maharashtra, released a special cancellation cover of Subbulakshmi’s first recording in 1926. Twin Record company had recorded the singer who was then just 10 years old. Shanmukhananda possesses the original 1926 disc which will be played during the celebrations.
