NALASOPRA: A major mishap was averted after a Ganesh idol being transported on a trolley toppled onto devotees during an arrival procession near the Fun Fiesta theatre in Nalasopara West on Saturday evening. Though a few devotees were trapped underneath the idol, they were quickly rescued by fellow members of the procession. No one was injured and the idol was also reported to be intact…Members of the Moregaon Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal in Nalasopara East had gone to a workshop on Saturday afternoon to collect the idol. They placed it on a trolley and began taking it towards Moregaon.As the procession was passing through the Fun Fiesta theatre area, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds began. While members were covering the idol with a plastic sheet to protect it from the rain, the idol suddenly lost balance and toppled from the trolley.A few members were caught underneath the idol. Other members immediately rushed to their aid and lifted the idol, helping them get out. Local corporator Manoj Patil said no one was injured in the incident and the idol was also undamaged.Police reached the spot after being alerted and inspected the scene. Nalasopara police station senior inspector Vishal Walvi said no one had suffered serious injuries and the mandal members subsequently continued the procession with the idol.
