Thiruvananthapuram: Registration has begun for the second edition of Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon, which will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on Oct 4.The marathon is being organised by the Southern Air Command to commemorate the supreme sacrifice and exemplary valour of flying officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the only Indian Air Force officer to have been awarded the Param Vir Chakra. The event, which begins at Lulu Mall at Akkulam, will feature three categories — a 21.1-km half marathon, a 10km run and a 5km fun run.The marathon aims to honour Sekhon’s legacy while promoting patriotism, discipline, physical fitness, healthy living and a spirit of service among youngsters and the wider community. The organisers said the event would provide an opportunity for people of all age groups to come together, celebrate national service and encourage young people to consider joining the armed forces.Around 3,000 participants are expected to take part in this year’s marathon. The Indian Air Force has urged the public to “run with pride, run for the nation” and be part of the tribute to the national hero.
