PALGHAR: Palghar police on Friday arrested Rohit Gavit, son of MLA Rajendra Gavit, in connection with the assault and ruckus at Relief Hospital in Palghar.9 other Govindas were also arrested in the case. The accused were produced before the Palghar sessions court, which remanded them in police custody till September 13.The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, September 5, during the Dahi Handi celebrations, when local Shiv Sena functionaries allegedly created a ruckus at Relief Hospital over the treatment of injured Govindas.They allegedly assaulted a hospital employee and took away five injured Govindas who were admitted to the ICU.Palghar police had registered a case against 17 people, including Shiv Sena district chief Kundan Sankhe and city chief Rahul Gharat.So far, only Gharat had been arrested, while the other accused were absconding. Police had launched a search for them.On Friday, police arrested Rohit Gavit from his residence in Mira Road. According to police, Gavit had obtained a new SIM card and inserted it into his old mobile phone.This helped police trace his location through technical surveillance and arrest him.Police also arrested nine other accused who were among the Govindas involved in the case. They were produced before the Palghar sessions court, which remanded all the accused in police custody till September 13.
