HYDERABAD: From Hyderabad’s star former India batter VVS Laxman to internationally acclaimed director SS Rajamouli, several prominent personalities from the city figure in the Election Commission‘s list of people who have been issued notices as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.A quick glance at the ‘List of Persons to Whom Notices Have Been Issued (After Draft Roll Published on 17-08-2026)’ shows several prominent personalities on the list. The exhaustive VIP list was highlighted on X platform by the handle @avinashmohan.TOI’s independent check revealed that along with Laxman and Rajamouli, the list includes sportspersons Pullela Gopichand, Saina Nehwal and Mithali Raj; actors Mahesh Babu and his wife Namrata, Venkatesh Daggubati and his two daughters, Samantha Akkineni, and Vijay Deverakonda and his brother Anand, among others.Name mismatchThe reasons cited include name mismatch, ‘unmapped with last SIR’ and parent-name mismatch. For some, the reason for discrepancy column is blank.The list also includes entrepreneurs Murali Krishna Prasad Divi and Upasana Konidela, among others.“There is an option, especially in the case of VIPs, to authorise someone to appear for the hearing if they are unavailable. There is still time, and many well-known people are yet to appear for hearings,” said RV Karnan, district election officer, Hyderabad, under whose jurisdiction many of the assembly constituencies where these personalities are registered as voters fall.Officials also said it was not surprising that many well-known personalities had been issued notices, as they too, along with lakhs of voters in the state, had discrepancies in their details.Activists, meanwhile, said that if celebrities are issued notices and are at risk of losing their votes, it raises questions about what common people may be facing.“What is the status of the single woman living in a small hamlet in a remote village in Telangana? Who will take responsibility if her vote gets deleted?” said Ruchith Asha Kamal, an activist who also took part in the CJP movement in Delhi.
