Chandigarh: Kalwinder “Kal” Dosanjh, the veteran Vancouver Police Department (VPD) officer of Punjab origin, who has been charged with nine criminal offences, including fraud, theft and breach of trust, has denied the allegations.In his statement shared on a social media platform by his wife Sandy Dosanjh, the decorated police officer stated, “I deny the allegations against me and I look forward to defending myself fully in court. I have complete confidence in my legal counsel and in the Canadian justice system, and I will allow the evidence and the facts to speak for themselves.”He added, “I have dedicated more than 26 years of my life to serving this community. That work remains deeply important to me, and I intend to continue supporting the community I have served for so many years. I respectfully ask the media and the public to allow the legal process to take its due course.”He also stated, “This has been a difficult time for me and my family, and we are deeply grateful for the overwhelming love and support we have received from friends, family and members of the community.”Dosanjh’s legal counsel, Joven Narwal KC, also issued a statement, saying, “For nearly three decades, Kal Dosanjh has served this province, in uniform and in the community. Outside policing, he has devoted thousands of hours to young people across British Columbia, helping steer them away from drugs, gangs and violence through sport, mentorship and education.”Narwal noted, “Last week, the institution Dosanjh has served for his entire professional life revealed that it had been investigating him through its own investigators. That raises legitimate concerns about investigative independence, objectivity and the safeguards used when a police department investigates one of its own.”Narwal added, “Dosanjh unequivocally denies any wrongdoing. He is presumed innocent, and that presumption must be respected regardless of the prominence of the allegations or the manner in which the charges were announced.”Narwal further stated, “This matter now moves into an open and independent court process where the evidence, the allegations and the conduct of the investigation can be properly tested. Dosanjh has respect and confidence in the justice system and looks forward to defending himself fully.”Dosanjh faces four counts of fraud over 5,000 Canadian dollars, four counts of theft over 5,000 Canadian dollars and one count of breach of trust by a public officer. According to Canadian media reports citing Vancouver Police Department’s investigation, he was allegedly involved in transactions that resulted in 19 alleged victims reporting losses of more than C$3 million between 2017 and 2025. A VPD veteran of over 25 years, Dosanjh has worked in financial crimes, drug enforcement and undercover operations. In 2015, he founded KidsPlay Youth Foundation, a Surrey-based non-profit offering sports and mentorship programmes to steer youth away from gangs and drugs.Dosanjh has received numerous honours for his community work, including King Charles III Coronation Medal, Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal and recognition from BC Achievement Foundation. Following Dosanjh’s arrest, his wife, Sandy Dosanjh, who had been campaigning for a Surrey City Council seat with Conservative Party of Surrey, was removed from the party’s slate.The party, however, said it did not attribute any wrongdoing to Sandy and that the decision was made out of concerns over public confidence.“As Sandy is no longer a candidate for public office, we ask that her privacy be respected at this time so that she is able to focus on her family,” the party said in a statement.Ends
