Vadodara: Mahisagar police arrested a man on Tuesday for killing his three-month-old son in a fit of rage that stemmed from doubts that he was not the father. Ashish Bhuriya was arrested after his wife, Heena Bhuriya, filed a murder complaint against him at Santrampur police station.According to police, the killing occurred on Sunday at Zhaldada village. Heena told police that Ashish repeatedly argued with her over his suspicions about the child’s paternity before allegedly committing the murder. The couple married in May 2025 and Heena gave birth to a baby boy in June 2026. She had gone to her parents’ home for the delivery and stayed there for about a month. When Ashish visited her in Aug, he got angry on seeing her talking on the phone for a long time and threw her phone away.Ashish later left for Dehgam, where he worked as a labourer. On Sunday, Heena returned to her in-laws’ home, where Ashish picked a fight with her. He accused her of spending too much time at her parents’ house and told her that he would take her with him to Dehgam.During the argument, Ashish noticed the infant sleeping on a cot outside the house. Police said he suddenly questioned Heena about the child’s paternity and demanded proof that the baby was his. Before Heena could respond, Ashish picked up the infant, ran to a well near the house and threw the child in. Heena raised the alarm and called her in-laws and neighbours for help, but it was too late as the infant’s lifeless body was later retrieved from the well.Ashish was arrested and booked for murder based on the complaint filed by Heena.
