Prayagraj: A 26-year-old woman constable died under mysterious circumstances after her service weapon (INSAS rifle) went off inside the campus of Mahila Thana in Kaushambi on Tuesday, police said.Senior cops are probing whether it was an alleged suicide case or the service weapon went off accidentally.The deceased, identified as Priyanka Yadav, a 2025-batch constable, was a resident of village Siddiqui (Dulharpur), Ghazipur district. This was her first posting after completing her training.The incident took place at around 10:21 am when cops posted at Mahila Thana heard a gunshot and rushed to the spot near the thana gate where the woman constable was found bleeding.Upon being alerted, senior police officials, including SP (Kaushambi) Satyanarayan, along with forensic experts, rushed to the spot and carried out investigations.“The woman constable was on guard duty. She was critically injured near the neck portion. She was rushed to Manjhanpur district hospital where doctors declared her brought dead,” a senior officer said.The bullet reportedly pierced the neck region and resulted in her death.The SP also constituted a team led by DSP to probe the incident.
