New Delhi: The Ministry of Education has issued advertisements for the appointment of Vice-Chancellors of three central universities – Central University of Haryana, Central University of Karnataka and Central University of Tamil Nadu.
The three notices set out similar eligibility criteria for the top academic and administrative posts. Candidates are required to be distinguished academicians with a minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Professor in a university, or 10 years’ experience in a reputed research and/or academic administrative organisation with demonstrated academic leadership.
The ministry has prescribed a fixed monthly pay of ₹2.10 lakh for the Vice-Chancellor posts, along with a special allowance of ₹11,250 and other usual allowances. The terms and conditions of service will be governed by the respective university’s Act, Statutes and Ordinances.
Candidates are preferably required to be not more than 65 years of age on the closing date of applications. The appointment is to be made from a panel of names recommended by a committee constituted under the provisions of the respective university’s Act.
For the Central University of Haryana, the Ministry of Education opened the application window from June 22 to July 21, 2026. The Central University of Karnataka notice invited applications from June 1 to June 30, 2026.
The Central University of Tamil Nadu advertisement was issued earlier, with applications invited between October 10 and November 8, 2025.
All three recruitment processes require candidates to apply online through the Ministry of Education’s SAMARTH portal.
The Vice-Chancellor is the academic as well as administrative head of the respective university. The advertisements emphasise competence, integrity, institutional commitment and demonstrated academic leadership as key expectations from candidates.
