Patna: A medical emergency involving an elderly passenger delayed a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Darbhanga by nearly two hours on Monday after she fell ill moments before takeoff and had to be deboarded for treatment. Following completion of medical formalities, the aircraft departed and landed safely at Darbhanga at 11.58am.The woman, aged around 80, was seated on flight SG-115 when her condition suddenly deteriorated after boarding. According to airline sources and passengers, her blood sugar level dropped, prompting the cabin crew to seek immediate medical assistance.A medical team boarded the aircraft and examined her. Following an assessment, doctors advised that she should not travel as her condition had not stabilised. The passenger was subsequently deboarded and shifted to the airport’s medical facility, where she remained under observation for more than an hour.The delay caused anxious moments for passengers, some of whom sought an early departure. The situation eased after airline staff explained the circumstances and the need to prioritise the passenger’s health.Passengers said the cabin head informed them that the woman would be accommodated on a later flight after clearance from doctors. A video shot by a passenger from inside the aircraft later surfaced on social media, showing medical personnel attending to the woman.The incident comes amid recent disruptions in SpiceJet’s Darbhanga operations. The airline cancelled its Delhi-Darbhanga flight on Monday, while both Delhi-Darbhanga and Darbhanga-Delhi services were cancelled on Sunday due to operational reasons.
