T’puram: The state govt will honour the families of organ donors at a function to be organised by Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (K-SOTTO) in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.The state-level function, ‘Smruthi Vandhanam 2026’, will be held at the Achutha Menon Centre for Health Sciences Studies auditorium at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology. Health ministerK Muraleedharan will inaugurate the event while Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor will be the chief guest. Principal secretary (health and family welfare) Sharmila Mary Joseph will preside.Families of 39 people who donated their organs after death between Aug 2025 and Aug 2026 will be honoured at the function. Individuals who received organs during the period and went on to begin a new life will also participate in the event.Awards for outstanding work in deceased organ donation will be presented, while individuals who have made notable contributions to the field will also be honoured. Those who rendered commendable service at various stages, from determining brain death to organ transplantation surgery, will also be felicitated.Besides, family members of organ donors and organ recipients will share their experiences at the event. The K-SOTTO annual report will also be released and a new toll-free number will be launched at the function. Special registration counters will also be arranged for people interested in registering their consent for deceased organ donation.
