Rajkot: A 35-year-old man allegedly murdered and dismembered his lover’s husband and dumped his remains in gunny sacks near a village lake in Anjar taluka of Kutch.The crime came to light in Varsamedi village after police recovered two gunny bags containing body parts, later identified as those of 43-year-old Lakhu Humbal, who had been reported missing a few days earlier.Police arrested Lakhu’s neighbour, Dinesh Thakor (35), on murder charges.“During interrogation, Thakor said he had been in a relationship with the victim’s wife for around one-and-a-half years. Fearing that Lakhu had become suspicious and might attack him, Thakor planned his murder,” said Sagar Bagmar, superintendent of police (SP), Kutch (East).According to police, Lakhu had gone to a farm on the night of Aug 31 to keep watch but did not return home. His brother, Devji, filed a missing persons report on Sep 1, following which police began technical analysis and questioned some locals.The investigation took a grim turn on the afternoon of Sep 5, when police received information about two suspicious gunny bags near the bank of the Varsamedi village lake. The bags contained human remains, which were later identified as Lakhu’s.The body was sent to Anjar Civil Hospital for forensic examination. Preliminary findings indicated that Lakhu had suffered fatal blows to the head.Police then focused on Thakor after gathering information about his alleged relationship with Lakhu’s wife. Thakor lived near the Varsamedi bus station.According to police, around 11pm on Aug 31, Thakor lured Lakhu to his residence on the pretext of discussing some work. During the conversation, he allegedly struck Lakhu repeatedly on the back of the head with an iron rod, killing him.Thakor then allegedly took Lakhu’s phone and discarded it along an unpaved road opposite the Varsamedi highway to mislead investigators.Police said Thakor later used hacksaw blades and other blades available at his residence to dismember the body. He packed the remains in plastic sacks and dumped them near the village lake.
