Lucknow: In an anti-narcotics operation near the India-Nepal border, a joint team of Bahraich police and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) arrested a woman drug peddler and seized 116 grams of smack valued at around ₹50 lakh in the international market.The accused, identified as Shakeela Bibi (40), wife of Mohammad Islam alias Lal Badshah and a resident of New Basti, Dashahara Bagh in Rupaidiha, was arrested during a checking drive conducted on Saturday night in the Dashahara Bagh area under Rupaidiha police station limits.SP, Bahraich, Vishwajeet Srivastava said that as part of an ongoing campaign against narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, the police intercepted the woman and recovered the contraband during a search. Besides the smack, police seized Rs 21,029 in Indian currency, Rs 23,800 in Nepalese currency and a Vivo V60 mobile phone from her possession. Officials said the recovery of both Indian and Nepalese currencies is being examined, given the area’s proximity to the international border.Following the seizure, police registered an FIR under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act at Rupaidiha police station. The accused was produced before a local court and sent for further legal proceedings.Police are investigating the source of the narcotics, its intended destination and possible links to a larger cross-border drug trafficking network.
