Tincy Mathew began her sporting career as a schoolgirl in Thiruvalla, Kerala, and went on to compete in triple jump at state, university and national-level competitions before building a career in nursing education.
Mathew started athletics in the third standard, initially taking part in long jump before moving to triple jump. Her competitive career developed through Kerala’s school and university athletics circuit and eventually took her to national-level competitions.
Among the notable results from her school career were victories at the Kerala School State Championships in 2002 and 2004. In 2004, she also won at the School Nationals held in West Bengal.
She continued to compete during her university years, winning the Kerala University Championship in 2005, 2006 and 2007. At the Inter-University Championship, she finished second in 2005, won in 2006 and secured third place in 2007.
The 2006 season brought further success at the junior and youth levels, with Mathew winning the Kerala Junior State Championship as well as the Junior National and Youth National championships.
Her athletics career developed alongside her education. Mathew studied at Balikamadom Higher Secondary School in Thiruvalla before moving to Maharashtra to pursue nursing education at MVP Samaj’s Institute of Nursing Education in Nashik. She later completed an MSc in Nursing, specialising in Pediatric Nursing.
As her academic and professional responsibilities grew, Mathew moved away from competitive athletics and towards nursing. The discipline and competitive experience of her early years, however, became part of a professional journey that later brought her into nursing education.
Mathew is now associated with Medline Academy, a nursing education institution founded with her husband, Ainstin S. Dennis. She serves as its Co-Founder and Academic Director and works as an NCLEX-RN trainer.
In this role, she prepares nursing candidates for the NCLEX-RN, the licensing examination used by nursing regulatory bodies in the United States and Canada. Her teaching areas include nursing concepts, clinical judgement, prioritisation, delegation and patient safety.
Her career today is focused less on competing herself and more on helping nursing aspirants prepare for a demanding professional examination. The transition has taken her from representing herself on the athletics field to supporting the next generation of nursing professionals through education and training.
Mathew’s career thus spans two different but demanding fields. Her early years were shaped by competitive athletics and the pursuit of performance at school, university and national levels. Her later work has centred on nursing education, academic leadership and preparing candidates for an international nursing licensing examination.
