Patna: In a major push to strengthen its expanding residential infrastructure, IIT-Patna (IIT-P) on Monday inaugurated the newly constructed Sir M Visvesvaraya Hostel, completing the project ahead of schedule.The achievement is particularly significant because the state-of-the-art hostel was built entirely with the institute’s own funds, reflecting IIT-P’s growing capacity for self-sustained infrastructure development.The foundation stone of the hostel was laid on February 11, 2025, by IIT-P director T N Singh, who returned to inaugurate the completed facility less than two years later.Describing the early completion as a reflection of collective commitment and efficient project execution, Singh said the new facility would provide students with a modern residential environment without the delays normally associated with large construction projects.He underlined the need for permanent and robust infrastructure to support IIT P’s long-term growth and its increasing student strength.The project was supervised through the official procedures by dean (administration)-cum-registrar A K Thakur. Students’ affairs dean Jimson Mathew and hostel warden Ajay Kumar Yadav were also present.The new hostel was formally handed over to Mohan Muralikrishna Garlapati of metallurgical and materials engineering department, who has been appointed its founding warden.With the addition of Sir M Visvesvaraya Hostel, IIT-P now has six fully operational hostels, giving a significant lift to its residential capacity as the institute continues to expand.
