Varanasi: The Varanasi Municipal Corporation will install lights, CCTV cameras and an open gym at the historic Pishachmochan Kund as part of its ongoing drive to protect, restore and beautify the city’s traditional water bodies.Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal inspected Pishachmochan Kund, Pitarkunda Talab and Ram Kund on Sunday to review the progress of ongoing development and conservation works. He directed officials to complete all pending work without delay.At Pishachmochan Kund, Nagpal ordered improved lighting around the pond and the installation of CCTV cameras to strengthen security. He also directed officials to set up fitness equipment and an open gym for public use.At Ram Kund, the municipal commissioner instructed officials to replace the damaged boundary with a strong RCC wall. He also ordered repairs to railings and fresh painting across the premises.During his inspection of Pitarkunda Talab, Nagpal directed officials to construct a new grand entrance gate, install railings, complete pending painting work and ensure regular cleanliness at the site.The civic body said the initiative is aimed at preserving Varanasi’s ancient ponds, kunds, wells and other traditional water sources while making them cleaner, safer and more accessible to residents and visitors.Local corporator Sindhu Sonkar, senior municipal officials and other representatives were present during the inspection. Officials said the work forms part of the corporation’s conservation-focused urban improvement programme for Varanasi’s heritage sites.
