Panaji: First Aakash Sangwan, and now Jorge Ortiz.FC Goa have received unexpected boosts in the last few days after Sangwan made a U-turn on his decision to part ways with the club and now Ortiz has returned with a contract till the end of the season.Coach Gouramangi Singh had sought reinforcements after the team’s loss against FK Arkadag in the AFC Champions League Two playoff last month. While Sangwan’s signing appeared to be the last one, at least for now, quite unexpectedly, there’s another addition.“Jorge understands the club and our way of playing,” said Lokesh Bherwani, director of football. “His quality, creativity, and experience will be valuable for us. We believe he can make an important contribution to the team.”Ortiz, 34, spent two seasons at Goa and was one of the more impressive players during his time at the club. The winger scored eight goals and provided five assists in 15 matches during the 2021-22 season, which included a memorable hat-trick against Chennaiyin FC. In the 2020-21 season, Ortiz fired six goals and an assist. The Spaniard mutually terminated his contract with Goa towards the closing stages of the ISL in 2022 to join hands with Sergio Lobera at Chinese League One club Sichuan Jiunium.Ortiz joined Mumbai City last year, during the January transfer window, on a 18-month contract.“Jorge is a player with great quality and personality,” said Gouramangi. “He knows the environment here and has already shown what he can bring to the team. His creativity and ability to make things happen in the final third will be important for us.”
