Madikeri: A young man died after falling from a height while putting up buntings for the Ganesha festival at Chennangolli near Gonikoppa on Friday evening.The deceased, Ganesh, 28, was a resident of Chennangolli. According to reports, he was climbing a pole to decorate it with buntings when he accidentally fell from a considerable height. He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment. However, police said he succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.His death has cast a pall of gloom over the village. He is survived by his mother and two sisters.Woman drowns in pondIn a separate incident, a woman drowned after slipping into a pond while feeding fish at T Shettigeri village on Saturday. The deceased, Hemavathi, was the wife of Machamada Nanaiah, a resident of Tavalageri village in T Shettigeri.Nanaiah is a fisherman by profession. On Saturday morning, as part of her routine, Hemavathi went to the pond to feed the fish. As the banks were slippery, she lost her footing, fell into the water and drowned.After learning about the incident, residents rushed to the spot and retrieved the body. A case has been registered at Srimangala police station.Hemavathi, a former member of the T Shettigeri GP, is survived by her husband and two daughters.
